Four Cuts Photo Booth
Four shots. One keepsake.
In testing, coming to the App Store

What it is
Four Cuts is a photobooth app for iPhone and iPad. You take four photos with a 3-2-1 countdown, or pick four from your gallery. Then you choose a layout (strip, grid or polaroid), one of five styles from "Classic Booth" to "Scrapbook", and one of ten filters, and save the finished strip. Everything stays on your phone.
Where it came from
In March 2026 I made a photobooth that ran in the browser. It worked, but a photobooth belongs on your phone, with a real camera. In August I rebuilt it as a proper app and renamed it after the Korean photobooths called "life's four cuts".
How I made it
AI coding tools wrote most of the code. I tested every version on my own iPhone, took screenshots of anything that felt wrong, and sent back exactly what I wanted changed. Some things I asked for:
- the camera preview was squashed, so faces looked wide;
- after saving a strip there was no way back;
- the filters were hidden in a row I didn't know I could scroll;
- the "black" strip colour wasn't really black.
Choosing the icon
The app icon took six rounds. I didn't want a photo strip, and I didn't want anything too girlish or over the top. I wanted something sleek, with calm colours. The final icon is a camera lens in deep plum, cream and red.

What I cut
I removed stickers and a "Share to Story" button. The button only opened the normal share menu, so it promised something it didn't do.
The hardest bug
Photos taken with the phone held sideways landed on the strip turned the wrong way. Fixing it took several rounds of testing on the phone. The lesson was to predict what should happen for every way you can hold the phone, and check that, before asking anyone to test.
Big text has to fit too
When I set my phone to its largest text size, the app's title broke into pieces. I sent a screenshot and it was fixed, so the title now wraps cleanly.

AfterWhere it is now
Four Cuts is in TestFlight testing and has its App Store listing ready. It works offline and collects no data. The App Store link will go here once Apple has approved the app.
Four Cuts has its own page for support and privacy: Four Cuts support and privacy.
